BioTek: ELx405: Waste Line Maintenance

This guide covers basic waste system maintenance to ensure optimal functionality and longevity of your ELx405.

Step 1: Inspect the Waste Tubing

The waste tubing in your ELx405 is vital for proper system operation. It’s recommended to use only thick-walled, vacuum-rated tubing for this system. Regularly check the tubing for kinks or buildup. Any blockages or wear in the tubing can hinder the vacuum pull necessary for waste removal. If you notice issues, consider replacing the tubing to maintain efficient operation.

Step 2: Check Fittings and O-Rings

Inspect the fittings on the waste line regularly. Male fittings should have a clean O-ring at the base and connect securely with a snap. Female fittings should release the male fitting smoothly and remain tight to the cap. If you can twist the fittings, tighten the lock nut under the cap. It’s a good idea to sterilize the system before handling, as this area often holds waste.

Step 3: Maintain the Secondary Waste Container

The secondary waste container includes a float sensor to detect overflow, protecting your vacuum pump. Ensure the sensor is clean and functional. Just like with the primary container, check the fittings and O-rings on the cap, ensuring they’re secure and free of debris.

Step 4: Clean the Fluid Filter

To maintain a clean dispense flow, periodically inspect and clean the fluid inlet screen. Look for clogs or degradation in the filter, and replace if necessary. Reinstall the screen facing away from the nozzle and secure it tightly to prevent leaks.
